Vasco Hexel is a composer, classically trained in singing and piano. One could say Vasco is precocious: at age 7 he demanded a piano from his parents; at age 13 he was the lead singer in a rock band – he can still look the part… – and he wrote his first musical at age 16. Vasco's music is influenced by a childhood in pop music, a musical theatre-adolescence and student years immersed in jazz and film scores. His sound is both traditional and contemporary, nostalgic and cutting edge: a fusion of lush romanticism and calculated beats, with a characteristically strong rhythmic and emotional drive that delivers. Vasco has composed original scores for award-winning animations, short films, documentaries, TV idents, commercials, production music, and feature films. His clients have included Gucci, RSA Films, Channel 4, Boden, Universal Production Music, ZDF Germany and KanalD Romania. His first musical Somebody's Life has been successful in Europe and is still staged regularly. He was a finalist in the 2008 Volkswagen Score Competition, mentored by Gustavo Santaolalla. Vasco was recently given a special mention to his score for short film "Ah" as one of the finalists for the Transatlantyk Film Festival. Judges included: Paul Broucek (President of Music Warner Bros), Richard Gladstein (Producer, Pulp Fictiion), Peter Golub (Director of Film Music, Sundance Institute), and Christopher Young (Composer, Shipping Forecast and Spiderman 3), and Jan AP Kaczmarek (Composer, Finding Neverland and Unfaithful). Vasco is the composer-in-residence of luxury menswear brand D.S. Dundee. Vasco is the Leader of Composition for Screen at the Royal College of Music and is the Music Consultant for the London Film School. Credits: Feature Film
